I was very disappointed with my experience. The biggest issue was being charged for an item that I did not order, consume, or even touch. A beef patty was mistakenly brought to our table and remained untouched the entire time. It was eventually thrown away, yet I was still charged for it. When I politely asked if it would be possible to remove the charge since the item was not ordered and was served in a paper bag by mistake, the server said she no at first but the would check if it was possible. The beef patty that was brought to the table appeared to have been sitting out rather than freshly prepared. The chef then came over and stated that this was simply how he runs his business. I never raised my voice or caused a scene—I was only asking a reasonable question. What bothered me most was the way the situation was handled. Rather than taking accountability for the mistake, the response felt dismissive, passive-aggressive, and unprofessional. The chef walked away abruptly, while the server later apologized and explained that she still had to charge me. To avoid further conflict, I paid the bill and left. I order lunch for our small private medical practice every Monday that we are open, and this place has been consistently outstanding. (If I did not live in New York City, I’d probably be ordering from here almost every day!) By far, this is the best Jamaican restaurant in the Poughkeepsie area. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming, and comforting. The staff are amazing—always respectful, professional, and a pleasure to interact with. The food—along with their in-house beverages—is authentic, fresh, and clearly prepared with pride. From one Black-owned Jamaican business to another, much respect and one love!

Walked in, the restaurant was spotless and so inviting. We were greeted by the most amazing aroma of garlic and crab, and the owners beautiful smile. The plate was packed full of meat and the rice was banging, best rice and peas I’ve tried from a Caribbean spot. And to top it off she gave us a little red baggy w chocolates and the dopest pen. Honestly I’m coming back because you can tell that this is a very thought out and loved business. Not only was the food great, especially for the price, but the owner and environment topped off my experience. This was awesome. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Magnificently delicious! We will undoubtedly be returning! Our family of four dined in after reviewing Upstream Cafe’s 5 star reviews. This business wholly deserves their exceptional rating. The food was delicious and generously portioned with a short wait time. We ordered the Rasta pasta, curry goat, and oxtail. We also enjoyed some of their crisp beverages. Above all, the owners were genuinely welcoming and warm-hearted. Come here to enjoy some hearty food and support a lovely family-owned establishment!
